The Physical Setting/Chemistry Course is designed to introduce students to a wide range of chemistry topics and real-world applications. The main focus is to present the fundamental principles of the subject and allow students to apply their knowledge to experimental activities. There is a wide range of topics covered in this course, from atomic structure, to nuclear and organic chemistry. Our freshmen are well prepared for the New York State Regents Examination and given the opportunity to consider expanding their careers in science. The curriculum is designed with a “building block” structure as each topic is a segue into the next. The emphasis in Staten Island Technical High School’s Chemistry Department is to promote student collaboration, scientific inquiry and critical thinking.
