Maritime Careers Pre-Apprentice Program

 

This program, done in collaboration with the Seafarers International Union, prepares students for the SIU Apprenticeship Program with a 12-hr introduction to the maritime industry and career pathways, covering fees for credentials needed, as well as assistance with the SIU Apprenticeship application, and a stipend to cover the cost of travel to Piney Point, MD.

Once students are accepted into the apprenticeship program, classes, meals and lodging are free and graduates are then guaranteed a first job aboard one of the SIU’s contracted vessels. Candidates must be 18+ and have a valid passport.  Candidates must be able to pass the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) with a score of at least 9.
