The Advance/SILive.com will again host a unique event in February for any Staten Island woman who wants business advice, or educational advice, or volunteering advice – let’s just say any advice whatsoever.

Note: There is a fee for this event. This is an optional event. It does take place during school hours, but you may NOT miss class for this. Only attend if you have a free period. Please discuss all opportunities with a parent/guardian, especially since there is a fee.

The DOE CTE office is announcing the NYCDOE Construction & Sustainability Commission event on Tue, Feb 23 @ 1-3PM where they will be featuring a wide array of construction union organizations. The construction union pathway is a viable option our young people should consider as they determine what career is best for them.

Perry Outreach Programs is a program created to inspire women to pursue careers in orthopedic surgery and engineering, and will be transitioning to virtual learning.

POP is announcing upcoming sessions of the Perry Virtual Experience in February 2021. The Perry Virtual Experience is a free, 2.5-hour, interactive online experience for high school and college-aged women who are interested in pursuing careers in orthopedic surgery and engineering. Participants will hear from women leaders in these fields and dive into online orthopedic simulations and biomechanics experiments.

Women in high school and college who have an interest in science, medicine and/or engineering are now invited to register for a session of the Perry Virtual Experience. Students should fill out the online registration for one session that best fits their schedule. Most sessions are available to participants in any location, but some sessions are for a focused geographic area.

Students will work virtually to build hands-on engineering projects - robots, video games, and more. They can build individually or with friends, classmates, or teammates via Zoom and Slack. Students are taught by expert instructors including teachers and engineers. The total cost for the program is $500 which covers 5 hours of instruction and all project materials, including extra parts for modifications. There are also project kits shipped directly to students’ homes. Discounts are available for groups of four or more.
